Maternal Minds is committed to providing specialised counselling support to women that have concerns about their current pregnancy or a pregnancy that has occurred in the last 12 months.
Our service is not affiliated with any religious organisations and is based on the belief that whilst pregnancy is considered to be a joyful time in a woman’s life, for some women this period of their life is extremely stressful and brings with it many life changing decisions.
Some of the reasons a woman may require pregnancy support counselling are :
- Unplanned pregnancy
- Teenage pregnancy
- Prospect of being a Single Mother
- Grief and Loss associated with a loss of pregnancy (last 12 months)
- Women considering a termination of pregnancy
- Those finding it difficult to deal with a recent termination of pregnancy
- Perceived lack of support of a pregnancy – from family or their partner
- Financial Concerns: How will I cope financially when the baby is born?
- What financial support is available from the government?
- Emotional concerns: Will I be a good mother?
- Women considering putting their child up for adoption
Maternal Minds offers specialised therapy sessions for the treatment of Post Natal Depression and Anxiety. There are always major emotional and physical adjustments for any woman after giving birth to a child such as poor sleep due to regular feeding of a newborn, fatigue and natural concerns about confidence in parenting. However some women find that these factors become quite intense and overbearing and can lead to further distress such as:
- Tearfulness
- Mood swings
- Complete loss of confidence
- Poor self image
- Sleep deprivation
- Difficulty in concentration and remembering things
- Relationship stress
- Low libido
In some cases a woman may reach the point where she will contemplate suicide. If a woman is experiencing these symptoms they should consult their GP for a referral for treatment of Post Natal Depression however if a woman does express suicidal ideation then local Mental Health Acute Care Services should be contacted immediately.
Currently we are providing our services for the treatment post natal depression in Cronulla & Sydney CBD as well as online.
